Based on a true story, ‘Sunflower’ delves into the unexpected love affair between a charismatic politician and her much older lover, who turns his back on his old life to help propel her into worldwide fame. Their co-dependent relationship is central to the film which is set against the backdrop of the birth of the European Green movement and cold war politics. It’s a mix of passion and jealousy, betrayal and human fraility. It’s about how our past experiences can impel us towards extraordinary achievements, but can also be responsible for bringing us down.
